Arthur Denniston sold his property to his son Alexander in 1785. He had the 338 acres surveyed and obtained a patent, before adding the village of New Alexandria in 1793.
The Old Covered Toll Bridge was built in 1832. The bridge connected the main streets of each side of the Loyalhanna Creek. Tolls ranged from 1c per Man, to 20c per carriage. Sheep and swine were 1/2 c each.
New Alexandria was incorporated April 10, 1834, from the merger of New Alexandria and Denniston's Town on Loyalhanna Creek, the first borough created out of Derry Township.
After years of mining, massive miner strikes and hundreds of lost lives, the mining company sells its land an mineral rights to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, for use as a State Park. A few of the structures in the park were originally built by Keystone Coal & Coke.
Famous for their "Broasted Chicken," the Corner Restaurant opened as a frozen custard-soft ice cream stand in June, 1950. It evolved over the years. (pic circa 1961) First Commonwealth Bank now stands in its place
The playground on the corner of Church and School Streets was dedicated, in April, to the memory of Mayor Dorthea "Dottie" Bacher. Dottie served as mayor for eleven years before passing away.
In August, Eagle Scout Troop 211 constructed a flag monument as a community project. The project was lead by Eagle Scout Lachlan Mcklveen and was dedicated to borough in memory of his grandfather and Eagle Scout, Peter Wuchina, Jr.
